About the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program:
The Ohio Institute of Allied Health Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Associate of Applied Science program prepares students for a rewarding career using ultrasound technology. This comprehensive 24 month program combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory training, and supervised clinical experiences to help students develop the knowledge, technical skills, and professional behaviors needed to succeed in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.

Throughout the program, students will study ultrasound physics and instrumentation, abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, and vascular sonography while building a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, patient care, medical terminology, and professional communication. Students will practice scanning techniques in a simulated laboratory environment before applying their skills during supervised clinical rotations in real healthcare settings.
The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to provide safe, ethical, and compassionate patient care while producing high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by physicians. Students will develop critical thinking, clinical judgment, effective communication, and technical proficiency in accordance with professional standards and best practices in diagnostic medical sonography.

Admissions and Enrollment
Each program has specific admissions requirements that must be met prior to enrollment. Please review the catalog for the admissions policies for the Practical Nursing Program at the Ohio Institute of Allied Health, Inc. All applicants for programs must be 18 years or older and a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.
Disqualifying Offenses for Enrollment
A criminal background could prevent enrollment into the Ohio Institute of Allied Health, Inc. Under no circumstances will OIAH admit an applicant with a felony conviction of any kind. It is very rare for OIAH to admit an applicant with a misdemeanor conviction on their record. If an applicant is aware of any convictions, they are expected to inform their Admissions Representative who can advise on next steps.
